The former Manchester United star opens the door to a return to Old Trafford after making his England debut last month

Gomez made his debut with the England national team in the 2-0 win over Finland last month.

Speaking to Times Sport, Gomez refused to rule out a return to United after starring for LOSC Lille.

“There will always be an emotional vulnerability, so of course it will be hard to say no,” he said.

“As wonderful as it would be, having found happiness abroad, I know that [playing in the Premier League] It is not the be-all and end-all.

Gomez rose through the ranks at United before moving to Lille on a free transfer in 2020.

He made his debut for the Red Devils against Crystal Palace in 2017 when he came on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney.

Gomez became the youngest ever Premier League player and made ten first-team appearances for his boyhood club.

He revived his career in France, where he scored two goals and provided ten assists last season.

Half of his assists came when he played as a midfielder. He played the same role for the Three Lions, partnering Declan Rice in a two-man midfield.

United currently have a wealth of midfielders, thanks to the progress of Kobe Maino and the arrival of Manuel Ugarte this summer.

However, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could leave the club next summer.

Eriksen is in the final year of his contract, and there have been no talks to extend his contract.

Gomez may want to return to the Premier League to stay in the limelight after getting a taste of international football.

United lack a player who can sit deep and dominate the game, and Gomez could fit into that role.
