The Los Angeles Lakers are progressing well in their 2024-25 campaign. They are off to a great start so far, in large part due to their new coach JJ Redick.
Redick is in his first year as head coach, and so far, he’s been a perfect fit. He looks like a head coach and is doing a good job.
Redick has so far proven the doubters who thought he wouldn’t do a good job wrong, including former NBA All-Star guard Baron Davis. Davis said Saturday via Twitter/X that he met Reddick at a car wash and saw him watching a movie on his laptop.
Just encountered @jj_redick At the car wash he had his laptop watching a movie!!!! Players coach!!! The Lakers are in good hands!! #sincerity

Davis also said he believes the Lakers are in good hands under Redick.
The record and style of play tell us that. The Lakers are 2-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season, and their offense looks fluid. Redick has given this team a new sense of life, and he does so with his offensive strategies, boosting their scoring in areas where they excel.
The Lakers did not waste any possession, which focused on attacking the paint and facilitating ball movement. This is in line with their historical strengths under superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
This duo doesn’t have a lot of time together, so they’ll have to make the most of the years they have left. Fortunately, James and Davis are still at the top of their game, so as long as they stay healthy, Los Angeles will be in contention. Reddick is a student of the game, and even though he is a first-time head coach, he is no stranger to the game and what it takes to win.
Baron Davis, like the others, changes his view of Riddick. To many, Reddick’s appointment seemed like amateur hour. Many have wondered why the Lakers would hire a rookie coach to lead AD and James, perhaps in the post-James era.
The Lakers had a lot of options, but instead, they decided to take a risk on the rookie coach, believing it would work out for them in the long run.
If the first two games of the season tell us anything, it’s that Los Angeles will be in a great place under Redick. Los Angeles and Redick still have a long way to go, but the Lakers liked what they saw from Redick; He’s been their guy since day one.
More from the Lakers: Anthony Davis finally looks like the Lakers’ best player and that’s intentional
