SFPD cop details 49ers' Ricky Pearsall's assistance after shooting - NBC Sports Bay Area and California

The San Francisco police officer who helped save the life of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall after he was shot in the chest recently shared her side of the story.

SFPD Sgt. Joel Harrell shared with ESPN the horrific details of the shooting.

“When he stood up, I saw his wound on his chest. I was like, ‘Oh no,'” Harrell said. So, I took my strong hand and placed it on the hole to create suction. Then I took my other hand to press directly on his head. He says: Will I die from this? I said: Look at me. I know you don’t know me, but I want you to trust me, this is not your time. “

The shooting occurred in Union Square on August 31, leaving the 49ers rookie with a chest wound after a botched robbery attempt. A 17-year-old from Tracy attempted to steal a Rolex watch and jewelry from Pearsall.

After a long struggle, Pearsall was shot in the chest. San Francisco District Attorney Brock Jenkins charged the suspect with attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic weapon, and attempted second-degree robbery.

Miraculously, Pearsall avoided serious damage and returned to the team facility a few days after the accident.

The 24-year-old was recently activated and made his first appearance of the season in last week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pearsall and Sgt. Harrell will likely be connected for the rest of their lives.
