Meteorologists from the National Weather Service expect wind and rain across much of Central Texas this week.
A line of thunderstorms will move over much of the Killeen-Fort Cavazos area during the day Monday with severe weather, including damaging winds and hail.
“The last measurable rain was on Halloween at 0.08 inches,” meteorologist Sarah Barnes of the National Weather Service said Sunday. “Since November 1, there has been only a tiny amount of rain, less than 0.01 inch.”
Monday’s forecast includes a high near 81 degrees with south winds at 20-25 mph. Winds will become west-southwesterly at 10-15 mph in the afternoon and may reach 35 mph.
There is an 80% chance of rain with new bands between 0.1 and 0.25 inches. Total precipitation in thunderstorms may be higher, according to the National Weather Service.
Through Monday night, rain chances are expected to drop to 50% across most of the area with partly cloudy skies and a low around 56. West winds are expected to calm slightly at 5-10 mph, reaching 20 mph at times .
On Tuesday, no rain is in the forecast as conditions will be mostly sunny with a high near 69. Northwest winds at 5-15 mph may reach 20 mph. Expect clear conditions overnight with a low around 48. North winds will calm to around 5 mph and stay that way through Wednesday.
Wednesday morning skies will be sunny with highs back in the mid 70s and winds becoming calm east and southeast at around 5 mph. At night, rain chances reach 50% with showers and thunderstorms, especially after midnight. The weather will be mostly cloudy with the overnight temperature dropping to around 60 degrees with east winds at 5-10 mph.
There is a 60% chance of rain and a thunderstorm or two on Thursday. The day will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures reaching 75 degrees and winds east-southeast at 10-15 mph. Wind speeds can reach 20 mph.
Thursday night, rain chances drop to about 40% under mostly cloudy skies and a low around 60.
Friday there is a 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms with mostly cloudy conditions and a high near 71. A 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms will continue through the night under mostly cloudy skies and a low around 56.
On Saturday, there is a 20% chance of showers under a mostly sunny sky. The high temperature is expected to be near 73 degrees. Overnight, the sky will be partly cloudy and the low temperature will reach around 55 degrees.
Sunday, mostly sunny skies with a high of 76 degrees.
“Hopefully, by this time next week, the Killeen-Fort Cavazos area will see higher rainfall amounts than last week,” Barnes said.
