Most of the Bay Area has been under a red flag warning since Tuesday due to expected dry conditions and strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Extremely dry fuel, low humidity and gusty winds prompted a red flag warning until 7 a.m. Thursday, the weather service said.
The combination of those gusty winds and dry conditions could cause fires to spread quickly, weather officials said. Open burning is not recommended.
Despite the recent rain, long northerly offshore winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, will dry out the fuel very quickly, the weather service said.
Meteorologists expected the relative humidity to drop to 15%.
Weather conditions caused by the fires could also lead to potential power outages in parts of the Bay Area, according to PG&E. The company notified 15,000 customers in 17 counties that power may be proactively shut off.
