ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit shared a heartbreaking update on the health of his beloved service dog Ben this week.
“A lot of people have been asking me about Ben and I wanted to let you know that Ben received a second chemo injection on October 23, and since that day it has been getting worse,” Herbstreit wrote on social media on November 4.
He has lost the use of his back legs, as if they are almost paralyzed. He can barely walk. He continued: “He has not eaten for 3 days.” “I am currently in Pennsylvania with a holistic doctor who has been giving vitamin C IV for 3 days in hopes it will clear up [toxins] Of his body and give him a chance. The next 24 to 48 hours will tell us whether he has a chance or not.
He has accompanied Ben Herbstreit to College GameDay for the past two years, appearing on the field and even in the broadcast booth. Athletic departments across the country have begun giving the friendly pup special credentials to wear. Even as he battled leukemia, Ben’s tail continued to wag.
Herbstreit thanked fans for their support amid the golden retriever’s battle with cancer.
“I am so grateful for all the love so many have shown him over the past two years. One of the hardest things I have ever gone through in my life,” Herbstreit wrote.
“Ben is my best friend and companion. I love him with all my heart,” he continued. If you are a spiritual person, I would love for you to pray for my son.” He is currently in the ER hospital overnight and I will be taking him tomorrow to get another round of Vitamin C. Please pray for Ben and hope he goes out of it.
We’re rooting for you, Ben!
