Mk.gee is scheduled to perform tonight on Saturday Night Live. For those unfamiliar, Mk.gee is a singer and producer who has been making waves in the music world recently. It’s really no surprise that the “Dream Police” hitmaker is performing tonight on SNL. However, some relatively new fans may not know how to pronounce his name. For what it’s worth, neither is tonight’s host, comedian Bill Burr.
Let’s take a look at three quick facts about tonight’s SNL guest Mk.gee… including how to correctly pronounce his name.
1. Mk.gee has told us in the past how to pronounce his name
Quick answer: Mk.gee is pronounced “McGee”.
In fact, Michael Todd Gordon, aka Mk.gee, told everyone how to pronounce his name correctly on his 2018 EP, titled Proounced McGee. The producer, singer, and songwriter has only been active under that moniker since 2017, so he made sure to let people know how to pronounce his name from the beginning. Mk.gee released another EP that year also titled Fool.
2. He is a multi-instrumentalist
The 27-year-old has been making a name for himself and has been on a roll since the release of Two Star & The Dream Police earlier this year. However, it is difficult to determine its exact type; His tones are unique. Some might describe his work as alternative, experimental, soft psychedelia, or just plain indie.
Part of what makes Mk.gee difficult to define is its broad use of tools. Mk.gee is a multi-instrumentalist who contributes a number of different sounds to his work, from his voice to guitar to piano to synthesizer.
3. Mk.gee has worked with some big names so far
Clearly the Mk.gee can stand up well on its own. But he also worked with quite a few other artists. He has a few songwriting and producing credits under artists like Fred Again, Omar Apollo, Dihon, and Cassie Hill. Mk.gee also recently revealed that he will be working with Justin Bieber on his upcoming album; The first single from the “Baby” hitmaker in over three years.
We can’t wait to see Mk.gee’s performance on tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live!
