Girona scored two own goals and missed a penalty to suffer a narrow defeat in their first home match in the Champions League.
The Spanish side took the lead through 34-year-old defender David Lopez in the 19th minute, but equalized four minutes later when Quentin Temper’s header deflected off Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera.
Young Anthony Milambo put Feyenoord ahead 2-1 in the 33rd minute, and the Dutch team won a penalty kick moments later due to a foul on Timber, but goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga saved Ayase Ueda’s penalty kick.
In the second half, Girona had a goal disallowed and then they were awarded a penalty kick after Timon Wellenreuther fouled Bojan Mevski inside the penalty area, but the Feyenoord goalkeeper redeemed himself and saved the penalty kick taken by the former Aberdeen striker.
Donny van de Beek equalized for the hosts, scoring his first goal for the club since joining from Manchester United in the summer.
But Girona was denied the first point in the competition after its defender, Ladislav Krejci, diverted a cross from Igor Paixao in the 79th minute into his goal.
Girona also lost to Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League opener after a 90th-minute goal.
With the hat-trick, they equaled Fenerbahce’s record for the most goals in a single Champions League season, but became the first team to score an own goal in their first two matches in the competition.
