Misty Head details what happened when the Sundance husband was shot on an East Texas ranch

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The country singer who rose to fame after winning The Voice on Season 11 on Blake Shelton’s team has been injured in Tyler.

According to Sundance Head’s wife, Misty, he was shot in the stomach on Friday. He was airlifted to Tyler Hospital for surgery, she said.

She updated again after he arrived at Tyler Hospital, sometime after 8 p.m., and reported that he was in good spirits, and that their children were with him.

“He’s out on the farm hunting alone – he went yesterday – the boys were coming over this evening to join him for the weekend together, well, it happened. It wasn’t his shotgun, and no one shot him,” said Misty. He extended his hand to take his .22 rifle. When he grabbed it, the .22 revolver came out of its holster, hit the outside of the Jeep directly, and then exploded. Sundance said it happened so quickly he could see the bullet exit.

She added that he tried to help ten cars that were driving alongside him before one of them finally stopped.

“I thought he called 911 but he didn’t — he put his hands in his pocket for the phone right after he got hit but the phone wasn’t there, just full of blood. So he pulled down the driveway to the main road to report a car and call for help,” she said. “After 10 Cars, someone turned to help and called 911. Now this is what he told me…he is receiving intensive treatment right now and he is very lucky and grateful to be alive thanks to the good Samaritan who stood up and helped and the quick response from Air Life and the doctors.”

When we contacted Head’s agent, Trey Newman, he stated that he was in stable condition at the hospital. Newman said he was waiting for more details, but wanted to make clear that we are “100% certain it was not self-inflicted.” He said the family is asking for prayers for Sundance’s recovery. He also said Head was on his ranch in East Texas when the incident occurred.

Misty Head later states that he will not need surgery, as the bullet missed all of his internal organs and will not be removed.

“I’m sure she (the nurse) said why, but my head is in a fog right now. Having him on the larger side was good,” Misty said. “The bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers.”
