Donald Glover has canceled the remainder of Childish Gambino’s North American and European concert tour, saying he is scheduled to have surgery and needs “time to heal.”
The news comes after Glover previously postponed the tour’s remaining North American dates – which has been described as Childish Gambino’s “final” tour, as Glover plans to retire the title.
“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to confirm the illness had become apparent. After evaluation, it became clear that I would not be performing that night, and after further testing, I would not be able to perform the rest of the US tour in the required time,” Glover wrote. In X: “As of right now, I have surgery scheduled and need time to heal.”
He added: “My path to recovery is something I must face seriously. However, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for the love, privacy and support.
Glover did not reveal the reason for his admission to the hospital nor the details of the surgery scheduled for him. While he specifically canceled tour dates in North America, the UK and the rest of Europe, he did not say whether his concerts in New Zealand and Australia, in January and February 2025, would be affected.
The “New World” tour was part of Glover’s character Childish Gambino’s self-proclaimed “last” project, which includes his latest album “Bando Stone and the New World,” an upcoming film of the same name and a re-release. From the album “3.15.2020” in the era of the pandemic (renamed “Atavista”).
