Fritz and Dimitrov finally take the lead in the rain-soaked Shanghai Masters

Shanghai (AFP) – Two days after the start, seventh-seeded Taylor Fritz and 10th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov finally completed their second-round matches at the Shanghai Masters on Monday.

Fritz, who reached the US Open final, led 4-3 in the first set against Frenchman Terrence Atmani when rain stopped play on Saturday at the Ketchong Forest Sports City Stadium, then wiped out all matches on outdoor courts until Monday.

The American needed two tiebreaks to beat No. 161 Atmani 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), with just one break of serve each in the two-hour match. Fritz will play with Japanese qualifier Yusuke Watanuki in the third round.

Dimitrov, who is participating in his 100th Masters tournament, resumed on Monday with a set lead but wasted a break of serve in the second set against Zizo Burgess.

The Belgian, ranked No. 73, converted his advantage to win the second set. Dimitrov responded by breaking Burgess three times to lose a service game, winning the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The Bulgarian will play Australian Alexei Popyrin in the third round.

Danish Holger Rohn came back from a set down to beat Italian Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
