The Gap x Cult Gaia Collaboration gives classic denim a long-awaited makeover

The Gap x Cult Gaia collaboration hits shelves as of 9 a.m. PT on Thursday, October 10, and it brings with it a fresh approach to classic fall denim.

Under the leadership of creative director Zac Posen, Gap has tiptoed toward new aesthetic directions through a rotating group of participating designers. The Gap x Dôen collaboration brought florals and prairie lace T-shirts, while a recent tie-up with streetwear label Madhappy introduced urban luxe tracksuits in various pastel hues. The Gap x Cult Gaia collaboration pushes the company’s past reputation for reliable jeans and timeless tees even further, with a 35-piece collection that includes remixed logo sweatshirts, faux fur outerwear, and even hardware-adorned slip dresses.

Cult Gaia has been hugely popular since Yasmine Larian Hakim opened its doors in 2012. The Los Angeles-based brand first went viral with its carved wooden Ark bag, and has gained fans from Selena Gomez to Kaia Gerber through its wedding run. Guest dresses and matching sets are loved in earth tones. While Gap isn’t dabbling in popular Cult Gaia accessories (yet), the label has allowed Hikmat to expand her definition of jeans, denim jackets, and early party wear.

Standout pieces include a military green Gap logo sweatshirt emblazoned with the word “Gaia,” an asymmetrical cropped denim jacket, a white button-up with a back slit, and a structured denim corset that even Taylor Swift might be tempted to order. Being a collaboration with Gap, the jeans are also present and taken into consideration – but this time, they feature a more on-trend shape and wide leg. Prices range from $88 for the aforementioned top to $498 for a pair of leather pants.

“Reimagining classic Gap icons through the lens of Cult Gaia has been an incredible journey,” Hekmat said in a press release. “This collaboration combined Gap classics and everyday wearability with Cult Gaia’s sculptural and artistic approach, merging our two distinct creative strengths.”

Tapping into It-girl brands is just one way Gap has recently bolstered its fashion credentials. The brand has also designed a collection of gorgeous custom pieces, like a corseted white shirt dress for Anne Hathaway and a denim Met Gala dress for Daphne Joy Randolph.

Designer collaborations from Gap’s recent era tend to sell out no matter who they share the label with. So, be sure to click through the Gap x Cult Gaia collaborative pieces above once they speak to you.
