HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all islands through Sunday afternoon.
An upper-level disturbance is expected to move over the state until Sunday, creating a very unstable atmosphere that could easily lead to heavy rains and thunderstorms, especially over leeward areas.
The Flash Flood Warning for Oahu has been extended until 1:15 p.m
At 10:16 a.m., radar indicated heavy rain falling over central and eastern Oahu, including the urban communities of Honolulu. Rain was falling at a rate of 1.5 to 3 inches per hour, and was particularly heavy from Halawa to near Pearl City.
Rain fell in several areas around Oahu on Saturday morning, from Manoa to Halawa.
More than 7.5 inches of rain fell in Maunawili between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., and Manoa recorded just over five inches during the same period, with most of it falling after 6 a.m., the National Weather Service said.

Periods of heavy rainfall on already saturated land may lead to runoff and flash flooding. Water levels in already high streams could rise quickly with additional heavy rains.
The Ala Wai Canal was one of many waterways filled with runoff and debris Saturday morning.
Some roads could be flooded, including Kamehameha Highway. Flash floods are likely to continue.
Some of the locations that will experience flash flooding include Honolulu, Waipiu, Waihaul, Waikan, Pearl City, Iaa, Kahaluu, Halawa, Ahuimanu, Mililani, Waikili, Moanalua, Salt Lake, Wahiawa, Kawa, Waipahu, Wheeler Field, Kunia, Punaluu and Kalihi. .
A flash flood warning was previously in effect for the island of Maui. Windward East Maui got the most rain, with the West Wailuaiki rain gauge recording 4.8 inches during the six-hour period that ended at 9 a.m., and Hana recording just under four inches.
The Hawaii News Now weather team has designated Saturday and Sunday as the first weather days of alert for all islands.
The combination of heavy rain and high waves also closed the Bayfront Expressway in Hilo as large waves washed debris onto the road.
