LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A man has died after Las Vegas police officers shot him during a confrontation outside a business near Tropicana Boulevard and Koval Lane Friday morning.
Officers were called to the area by employees of a local business who requested assistance with a trespassing matter, said Capt. Curt McKenzie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Control and Constitutional Police Officer.

McKenzie said employees told dispatchers that someone went behind the counter and threatened employees.
When officers arrived, the people contacted had left the business but were still outside in the parking lot.
McKenzie said one of them was “very agitated” and had a knife in his hand.
When the officers exited the patrol car, McKenzie said the man with the knife “sprinted” toward one of the officers, who fired his weapon in his direction.
The man then attacked another officer “at full speed, causing the officer to fall back, discharge his weapon, and fall to the ground,” McKenzie says.
The officers regrouped while the man was still approaching them and another volley of shots was fired, McKenzie said. The man started to run away, but he did not get far before he fell to the ground.
Additional officers arrived at the scene, arrested the man, and began providing medical intervention. McKenzie says the man was later pronounced dead by staff at University Medical Center. As of this report, his identity has not been publicly revealed.
In response to a question from reporters why officers did not use less lethal force, McKenzie said events developed “very quickly.”
He noted that all the officers involved are fine and all other people involved are fine. He also asked community members to share any photos or videos they have of the altercation.
“We know there are a lot of people who recorded the video,” he said. “If you have any information, please do not hesitate to contact LVMPD or Crime Stoppers.”
McKenzie noted that this is the 10th officer-involved shooting in the LVMPD area this year.
