Bellator, former UFC competitor, Guilherme “Pumbaa” has passed away at the age of 38

Guilherme Vasconcelos, a veteran of 16 professional mixed martial arts fights, has died at the age of 38.

Vasconellos’ family members first reported his death, and multiple media outlets later confirmed the Brazilian’s death. The cause of death was not revealed. Vasconcelos posted a photo of Gracie Barra’s gymnast on his Instagram Stories less than 24 hours ago.

Members of the mixed martial arts community on social media also mourned Vasconello’s death, including veteran jiu-jitsu coach Cristiano Lazzarini.

“Of all the students I had, you were the bravest,” Lazzarini wrote on social media. “Brave, unbeatable. In moments of chaos, a machine. In trivial moments, a sweet boy. We had a machine that had a little bit of everything. Your debut in mixed martial arts, beating a man who had won 10 fights in a row and fought 19 fights, was one of the happiest My life’s moments in this sport. Unbreakable. So many journeys together and so many fights from blue belt to black belt, from the first fight to the last MMA, my love for you is unbelievable. “

Vasconelos has gone 10-6 over the course of his mixed martial arts career that began in 2012. After competing at “TUF Brazil 3,” his only appearance in the Octagon came at UFC 175, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Luke Zachrich on July 5, 2014. “Bumba” also went 3-3 during a six-fight stint with Bellator from 2016 to 2019. His last professional MMA appearance was a unanimous decision loss to Derek Anderson at Bellator 229 on October 4, 2019.

Outside the cage, Vasconcelos gained a measure of fame for dating pop star Demi Lovato in 2017.
