Berbatov expects Geochris Amorim to come to Manchester United to solve ’embarrassing’ problem
Manchester United have been lackluster in attack this season and need new reinforcements to reignite their attacking spark.
United have scored nine goals in ten league games this season – only Crystal Palace (8) and Southampton (7) have scored fewer goals.
Despite creating many great chances, they faltered in front of goal.
As Ruben Amorim prepares to take over, he faces a tough challenge to restore the team’s scoring touch.
Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov expects Sporting Lisbon’s Victor Guikiris to follow in Amorim’s footsteps and move to United.
He said on Sky Sports: “This guy, Victor Gyukiris, is scoring goals for fun at the moment, so I think there is a special relationship with him and the coach.
“So maybe we’ll see him in a United shirt at some point.
“From what he is showing now, I think yes, because our strikers at the moment are not producing – 18th in the league in terms of goalscoring is embarrassing for a club like United.”
Gyokeris has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 20 goals and four assists in 16 appearances in all competitions.
The £58m centre-forward has flourished under Amorim. He participated in 66 matches, scoring 63 goals and providing 23 assists.
He would have gotten the adulation he deserved had he been playing in a more popular league.
Erik ten Hag has signed several players who starred under him at Ajax. Amorim can also do the same.
Rasmus Hoglund has the potential to thrive, but needs support from another striker to ease his burden.
Joshua Zirkzee was brought in with the hope of fulfilling the role, but he struggled to deliver the quality required.
