Fox News host Bret Baier said he made a “mistake” during his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris this week by showing the incorrect clip of Donald Trump talking about the “enemy within.”

At the bottom of his show’s Special Report on Thursday, Baier explained to viewers that a particularly heated moment between him and the vice president arose after a clip was played of Trump defending himself for smearing left-wing Americans during a town hall.

“I made a mistake and I want to say I made a mistake,” Baer told viewers.

Bret Baier told viewers of his show “Special Report” that he made a “mistake” during his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris (Fox News, Special Report)

During his interview with Harris, the vice president accused him of deliberately showing a different clip of Trump that made him appear calmer. Harris was actually referring to a clip of Trump’s interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, in which he suggested using the military to control “radical left-wing lunatics” whom he referred to as the “enemy within.”

Baer told viewers he had expected a portion of Baritomo’s interview with Trump to be played alongside the former president’s answer at the town hall. Instead, only the city hall clip was shown.

But some raised eyebrows at Baer’s explanation. His former Fox News colleague Gretchen Carlson wrote on at that time.

Baier did not explain this “mistake” during his interview with Harris, which was pre-recorded shortly before it went live, even though the vice president told him it was untrue.

“Brett, I’m sorry and with all due respect, that clip was not what he was saying about the ‘enemy within’ that he repeated when he was talking about the American people. That’s not what you just showed,” Harris told Baer during the interview.

Beyer tried to explain the clip that showed Trump, during a city hall, being asked “specifically” about his comment.

But Harris interrupted again, saying: “No, that’s not what you just showed.” In all fairness and respect to you. “He has repeated this many times, and you and I know that.”

The Vice President concluded by condemning the former president for threatening to “go after” Americans whom he considered the “enemy within.”

Most of Baer’s interview with Harris was tense as the two talked over each other and argued over the facts. This was the first time Harris appeared in an exclusive interview on Fox News.

The Vice President engaged in a media blitz throughout the week, trying to reach voters from all demographics in the final days leading up to the presidential election. Part of her campaign strategy is to appeal to moderate conservative voters who are not loyal to Trump.
