Seamus Casey didn’t really know what to expect from his first training camp. But he wasn’t sure that was it.

On Saturday morning, he received a phone call informing him that he would be heading to Prague with the New Jersey Devils’ main roster, which is expected to start the season against the Buffalo Sabres.

“It’s huge and very exciting,” Casey said after training. “Camp has gone well so far, and you know you always want to see your name on the list, so it’s very exciting. You just have to keep working.”

Camp, for Casey, was better than “good.” At just 20 years old, fresh out of college, he began the season with an NHL club.

“If you had to bet on him, you would say he would go to Utica to start the season and gain valuable experience there, but we have a chance here because of the injuries we have, and he has done well.” “For those things, we think he’s earned the right to come on the trip with us,” coach Sheldon Keefe said.
