Chamindu Wickramasinghe is all set to make his ODI debut in the home series against West Indies

Karunaratne’s exclusion confirms the idea that he has simply fallen out of favor with the new selection and training regime. He last featured for Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup despite being part of several teams since then.

But his downward trajectory has coincided with Wickramasinghe’s rise after impressive performances with the bat in the Sri Lanka Premier League in July. He played in the first match of the T20I series against the West Indies before increasingly spin-friendly surfaces led to Dunith Wellalage being favored over him.

Mohammad Shiraz, a late inclusion in the squad to face India – as one of the replacements for the injured pair Mathisha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka – retains his place, although Madushanka also returns after missing the T20I series against the West Indies. However, Pathirana, who played all three T20I matches against West Indies, is absent. Asitha Fernando compiles speed options.

On the bowling front, the attack will be led by the powerful Mahesh Thekshana and Wanendu Hasaranga, with Vandersaye and Willage providing options.

Sri Lanka’s batting remains unchanged. Skipper Sharith Asalanka heads a formidable unit that includes the likes of Avishka Fernando, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Janeth Lianiyag, Sadira Samarawickrama and Nishan Madushka.

The three-match series will begin on October 20. All three matches will be played in Pallekele.
