Chris Martin was on stage doing some crowd work during Coldplay’s show at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne when he fell through the trapdoor.

Martin was reading some signs in the crowd when, unknowingly, he backed into a trap door and fell into the arms of a waiting crew member.
“This, uh, wasn’t planned,” Martin told the gasping crowd before addressing his rescuer. “Thank you for catching me.”
“Oh my God, that was almost a YouTube moment,” he added. Although it may not have been a YouTube moment, a fan captured a video of the fall and posted it on X (formerly Twitter).
Reps for Martin did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.
Martin and Coldplay are at the end of their massive Music of the Spheres world tour, which kicked off in 2022 and will end at London’s Wembley Stadium next September. With 9.6 million tickets sold across 164 dates, with global revenue of approximately $1.1 billion, it ranks as the most attended world tour and second highest grossing tour of all time, behind Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.
Over the summer, Martin invited Michael J. Fox to play on stage with the band in a surprise appearance at Glastonbury. Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, was in a wheelchair when he joined the band on stage with a guitar, playing with them the final two songs of their set, “Humankind” and “Fix You.”

After the performance, Martin thanked the cheering audience before giving a special shout-out to Fox. “Thank you in particular,” he said. “The main reason we’re in a band is to watch Back to the Future. So thanks to our forever hero, and one of the coolest people around, Mr. Michael J. Fox.”
Meanwhile, Martin is the latest musician to stumble, get off and spin around on stage. Entertainment vet Madonna went into a tailspin in February while performing in Seattle. Nelly Furtado looked nothing like a bird when she fell during her Coachella concert. Jesus took Carrie Underwood’s heels when she fell on stage during the Carolinas Country Music Festival.

And just last month, Olivia Rodrigo showed her bravery when she recovered from a fall during a concert in Melbourne as well. “Oh my God!” “That was fun,” she said as she emerged from her hole. “I’m fine!”
“Sometimes, there’s just a hole in the stage,” she added jokingly. Well, where have you been? How are you tonight, Melbourne?
