Conor McGregor has told Cody Rhodes he will “see you soon” after receiving a positive review for his whiskey from the WWE Champion.
The legendary UFC star is currently awaiting news on his octagon return, although he told Bloody Elbow that he expects it to take place on February 1 against Dan Hooker in Saudi Arabia. He also raised the possibility of retiring from the sport, telling fans yesterday that he was saying “goodbye”.
There was always a belief that McGregor would be a great star in WWE, due to his outspoken personality and energy in front of the crowd. He appeared to tease a potential reunion with their megastar in a tweet this morning.
Cody Rhodes wants to see Conor McGregor come to WWE
During a recent segment with mixed martial arts media personality The Schmo, Cody Rhodes tasted Conor McGregor’s whiskey brand Proper Twelve. The pair took a sip, and Rhodes noted that the taste was “classy.”
In their interview, Rhodes noted that he was very keen to see the Irishman “dip his toes in the water with WWE.” “We were talking about Proper Twelve and Connor’s whisky,” he explained. “Just dip his toes.
“The competition environment in WWE is different than what you might think. It’s a lot about who has the most discipline, who’s the most professional, and getting to WrestleMania and feeling like someone who has competed at the highest level like him and in a lot of great fights I think it’s time.”
“He can immerse himself in the more entertaining side of sports entertainment. I think he’d be great at that, I really do.”
Conor McGregor opens the door to a future meeting with Cody Rhodes
After seeing the clip on social media, which also included Rhodes naming McGregor on the MMA fighters’ Mount Rushmore, the Irishman appeared pleased. He went to X to express his appreciation to the WWE Champion, and even announced a future meeting.
“Schmo and undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes are enjoying some proper whiskey,” he wrote, before adding: “A top notch character!”
But it was the final sentence that got fans talking, with McGregor adding: “Love it Cody, see you soon,” along with a set of eyes emoji. He has sometimes been very harsh toward WWE figures, but he seems to respect Rhodes, who won the belt after a long appearance at WrestleMania in April.
Conor McGregor raises doubts about his retirement from mixed martial arts
This could be the perfect time for McGregor to step into the ring, especially since yesterday he seemed to be considering the idea of retiring from MMA again. He has previously hung up the gloves, but insisted those were “political” moves.
It remains to be seen whether or not he was joking when he took to social media to claim he was bidding farewell to the sport. After watching Khamzat Chimaev brutally injure Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, a fan told him he should retire before he gets hurt.

“There is no reason to return to the UFC or fight in general, you have a beautiful family worth half a billion dollars, and a business, as a successful businessman,” one fan wrote. “You achieved your dreams and became a double UFC champion.
“Don’t risk your health or well-being, you have nothing to prove to anyone champ, keep living life happily @thenotoriousmma.” McGregor seemed receptive, telling him he was actually right.
“You know what, you’re right, bye,” McGregor wrote, but has since deleted his tweet. It’s currently unclear if McGregor is being serious or just having some fun on social media.
