Dana White is determined to find an alternative methodology for the UFC’s rankings, so much so that he says he recently reached out to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
In an interview with TNT Sports on Thursday, White kept many of his thoughts on the UFC rankings close to his chest but continued to speak disparagingly about the current system of balloting select media representatives.
“I could go on and on but I won’t do it,” White said. We literally had meetings this week to work on it. I actually talked to Mark Zuckerberg as well about AI, so yeah. I will completely overhaul the classification. We’re going to make a lot of strong moves here by 2025.
White has become increasingly vocal about his dissatisfaction with the current system, which has been in place since the designation was implemented in February 2013.
Recent complaints have included Renato Moicano being left out after his win over Benoit St. Denis, Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree’s lack of impact, and Max Holloway’s presence under Justin Gaethje.
White has since indicated that an algorithm-based rating system or alternative system will likely be installed in the coming months. While White said he is holding meetings with various groups regarding potential changes, the reference to Zuckerberg marks the first specific name he has dropped.
