Did Hani give up? The Battle of Teofimo signals the end

Did Hani give up? The Battle of Teofimo signals the end

Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) are negotiating a fight at 140.

Haney is taking a big risk by facing two-division world champion Teofimo unmodified first, considering what happened to him in his last fight against Ryan Garcia. This seems like a cash grab on Haney’s part, as if he’s just given up on his career and is looking forward to the biggest payday he can get.

A fight between Haney and Teofimo will buy a PPV, but will likely not be anywhere near the level of Devin’s last fight against Ryan Garcia.

Teofimo is not a PPV draw and is not well known to casual boxing fans. His fights since 2021 show that he is on the negative side of his career. However, he can still hit, and that’s not what Haney needs if he wants to be in a position for a rematch with Ryan in 2025.

Devin takes a big risk

Forbes reports that talks are underway for a fight between Teofimo and Haney, but we will have to see if it can be achieved. This would be an absolutely crazy move for Haney against Lopez in his comeback fight as he needs a confidence boost going against a light punch after the brutal one by Ryan.

Talks between Haney and Teo have not been confirmed, but if this fight ends, it could end 25-year-old Devin’s career. Teofimo can punch, and he can finish what Ryan started earlier this year on April 20th.

Forbes said on its website: “According to sources I spoke with with direct knowledge, Hani is negotiating to face Teofimo Lopez in a rematch.” “The source did not share dates or money, but Haney and Lopez will headline a huge card in 2025 if the fight is agreed upon. The card will be broadcast on ESPN and promoted by Top Rank.

Haney has a chance in this fight because Teofimo has looked bad in recent matches against these fighters:

-Steve Claggett
-Jamin Ortiz
-Sandor Martin
– Pedro Campa
– George Kambosos Jr

Teofimo is not the type of fight that promoter Eddie Hearn would advise Devin Haney to take after his loss to Ryan via a 12-round majority decision. Hearn said Haney would have to make some adjustments first to make sure he was okay before facing the talented opponent.

If vintage Teofimo shows up, Haney won’t last three rounds. Teofimo will destroy him in an act of class, leaving Hani’s career in shambles.
