It’s unclear what this means at the moment. No trade has been announced recently, and that doesn’t mean Hill will be traded. However, it should be noted that the Dolphins have struggled mightily so far this season.
The Dolphins hold a 1-3 record and are currently on a three-game losing streak. Hill hasn’t been the wide receiver we’ve seen in years past, and that has a lot to do with him being without Pro Bowl quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
In the second week of the season against the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa suffered a concussion that kept him out of contention and led to renewed questions about his playing future. As things stand, he could return as early as Week 8 when the team faces the Arizona Cardinals.
With the Dolphins on this downward spiral and playing at quarterback, this could be the end of Hill’s time in Miami. The 30-year-old still has some juice left, and a change of scenery would likely be good for Hill.
This is his third year in Miami, and they have yet to win a playoff game. However, he put up big numbers at South Beach in two-plus seasons, recording 255 receptions on 317 targets, 3,726 yards, and 21 touchdowns, an average of 14.6 yards per reception, and a 55.3 percent success rate.
Hill is probably the fastest guy on the football field, and he fits head coach Mike McDaniel’s style of play perfectly. However, things have not been going well with the Dolphins’ current quarterback play.
In their last loss to the Tennessee Titans at home on Monday Night Football, Hill caught four of seven targets for 23 yards and rushed three times for 19 yards in the Dolphins’ 31-12 loss.
Normally, wide receivers start to decline at age 30, but that wasn’t the case with Hill. He has shown that he can still perform at a high level, but he needs the right person to pass the ball to.
Although Tagovailoa is not a top-tier quarterback compared to others in his particular conference, it is clear that he and Hill have unparalleled chemistry.
They complement each other well, and if Hill is traded, it could hurt Tagovailoa’s productivity when he returns.
