Eva Mendes will only return to the screen with Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes says the only film project that will convince her to return to acting is one alongside her husband, Ryan Gosling.

The pair appeared in two films together, Drunk History Christmas (2011) and The Place Beyond the Pines (2012).

Mendes, whose other hits include Training Day (2001), Hitch (2005) and The Other Guys (2010), stepped away from the industry in 2014, and explained in an interview with The Sunday Times that it wasn’t a challenge to leave the profession:

“I never liked acting. I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress. I had my moments when I worked with really great people.”

She said that she was very proud of the two projects she shared with Gosling: “He extracted something from me that was not possible to reach before.”

She said she would not return to the screen unless it was with her husband: “This is the only thing I like to do.”

Since becoming a mother to her two children, Mendes has founded a cleaning company, designed campaigns, and most recently wrote a children’s book called “Daisy, Mammy, and the Never-Ending Worries,” about a mother who helps her young daughter manage her anxiety.
