The Game Awards has confirmed that DLC, remakes and remasters are all eligible for all of its award categories, including Game of the Year.
With shortlists expected to be announced tomorrow, Monday 18 November, the FAQ page on The Game Awards website has been updated with new information to confirm that TGA judges are now considering “expansion packs, new game seasons, downloadable content (DLC), remakes and remasters” Eligible for consideration.

“The Game Awards aim to honor the best creative and technical work every year, regardless of the format in which that content is released,” the site now says. “Expansion packs, new game seasons, downloadable content (DLC), remakes, and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work worthy of nomination.
“Factors such as the freshness of the content and its price/value should be taken into account.”
This now means that remakes like Silent Hill 2 Remake may be in competition, as well as downloadable content like Elden Ring’s The Shadow of the Erdtree. Elden Ring won the 2022 TGA Game of the Year award.
This also means that games with seasonal content like Apex Legends, Destiny, and other live service games are also eligible, even if the base game itself was released several years ago.
Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 took home the top prize, and Alan Wake 2 took home several awards as well. The Game Awards 2023 broke its own viewership record, clocking in at nearly 118 million live streams.
With 103 million global live streams in 2022, this represents a 15 percent year-on-year increase for the show.
