It comes from the deluxe edition of “Our Secret”.
Gracie Abrams returns today with a deluxe edition of her sophomore album The Secret Of Us, released in June, featuring four new songs, all co-produced by Aaron Dessner. One of the new tunes, “That’s So True,” is already approaching 100,000 Genius page views, and debuted in the top 10 on our Top Songs chart.
Written by Abrams and her good friend Audrey Huppert (Dessner only gets a production credit here), “That’s So True” makes heavy use of lightly played acoustic guitar and a four-on-the-floor kick drum. It’s about the effects of a breakup, as Abrams somewhat explains in the opening verse.
I can go and read your review
Think about your stupid face all the time
I live in your glass house, and I’m outside
It’s more explicit in the previous chorus.
You’re an idiot, now I’m sure
Now that I’m sure, I have to go and warn her
But Abrams isn’t interested in saving this new girl from the same fate. She focused mostly on the time she was in her shoes. Interestingly, as Genius user @caszriel pointed out, the phrase “kicking back on your couch” mirrors a line in “Cool,” the previous track on the deluxe extra, so it’s possible the two songs touch on the same relationship.
Oh, I bet you’re thinking, “It’s so cool.”
Lie on your couch, and look around the room
Wait, I think I was there too, oh
In the second clip, Abrams reflects on intimate moments with her ex-husband and admits that she is angry with his new girl, despite her better judgement.
What did you do to graduate? (Yes)
Taking her hair down is like, oh my god
You took off your shirt, you did it once
Or twice oh
No, I know, I know I’m leaving
But I think I like it, it’s a lot of fun
Wait, I think I hate it, I’m not that sophisticated
But let’s give Gracie some pause, because she’s really hurting. Here she is on the bridge, which would make Taylor Swift proud.
I got out alive, but I think I lost her
He said I was fine, he said from the coffin
Do you remember how I died when I started walking?
This is my life, this is my life
