Porter, a singer who gained fame through appearances on “American Idol” and “The Voice,” is recovering after being shot in the abdomen.
Sundance Head – whose real name is Jason Head – was taken to hospital by Life Flight after suffering a gunshot wound to his abdominal area. He was scheduled to be taken for immediate surgery upon landing, but doctors decided the bullet did not need to be removed, his wife, Misty Head, said on Facebook.
“I’m sure she said why [the bullet wasn’t being removed]But my head is in a fog now. Having him on the larger side was a good thing. The post read: “The bullet is in his fatty tissue.”
Misty added that the bullet entered above his ankle and settled in the abdominal wall, which saved him from injuries to his vital organs.
She also thanked the fans and supporters for praying during the terrifying experience.
Sundance Head agent Trey Newman provided KPRC 2 with the following statement surrounding the circumstances of the injury:
Sundance Head is recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach/button area in a Tyler, Texas, hospital after being airlifted from his ranch while hunting. The bullet lodged in a fatty area of the stomach, and there is no surgery scheduled at this time. His condition is stable, and we await more details about this incident. Right now, we have no information on how exactly this happened but we are 100% sure that it was not a self-inflicted act. The family asks everyone to keep Sundance in their prayers.
The Porter native was a semifinalist on season six of American Idol in 2007. He won season 11 of The Voice in 2016, as a member of Blake Shelton’s team.
