NEW YORK – The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to pick up their second win of the season on Monday night, as they prepare for their first road game of the season, where they will take on the New York Rangers.

The Red Wings got off to a slow start in their home opener, but responded with a strong effort against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, especially between the pipes. Cam Talbot was outstanding for Detroit, making 42 saves and scoring a goal in a 3-0 win, recording the 32nd save of his career. JT Compher, Andrew Cobb and captain Dylan Larkin netted in the win.
While many view Saturday night’s performance as a solid defensive effort, the Wings need to get better at limiting their opponent’s possession. While Talbot stands on his head, Detroit can’t afford to let some of the best teams in the league extend time in its zone.
The Rangers are definitely one of those teams. With players like Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, the Blueshirts have one of the deepest offensive arsenals in the NHL. The Rangers started the 2024-25 season with a 6-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins last Wednesday, but stumbled with an overtime loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday night.
These two teams will play again in Detroit on Thursday.
