Deion Sanders and Colorado football are coming. They are coming to the Big 12 and are coming for a 5-star QB from the class of 2025. And if it’s not Julian Lewis, the QB Shedeur Sanders specifically wants to replace, it could be Alabama’s Kellon Russell.
Yes. Coach Prime is pursuing the Crimson Tide’s successor, Jalen Milroe. Sanders is picking up the bones of an Alabama team that just lost to Vanderbilt, aiming to capitalize on Colorado’s current momentum.
Coach Prime is not afraid of anyone. Certainly not Kalen de Boer, who lost his fan base with his clothes. Sanders couldn’t relate. He has Buffs fans wearing a cowboy hat, sunglasses and a gold chain in the stands at Folsom Field.
Sanders isn’t afraid of Nick Saban either. Saban still receives a salary from the Crimson Tide and has an office in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The GOAT of college football coaching is still largely involved in the recruiting process in Tuscaloosa. It’s not like it used to be, but it still is.
Trainer Prime is coming for the best dogs. Flipping Lewis from USC would be a statement, but flipping Russell from Alabama would signal a seismic shift in the sport.
Sanders has spoken about the unfortunate reality of modern recruiting, but at the college level, he was recruited just that way. Coach Prime’s first year as HC, at Jackson State, was during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season held in the spring of 2021.
Sanders can say he sympathizes with the Sabans of the world who saw the game pass them by, but he’s not part of that old guard. Coach Prime is a perfect example of how to navigate this new, fast-paced world full of quick twists and turns.
Russell’s flip would be the clearest possible proof of this concept.
