If you’re in the mood for a darker watch because we’re officially in spooky season, Netflix just got another excellent TV series that fits the bill. If you haven’t streamed “Yellowjackets” before you’re on a truly wild ride.
Now, I’m not usually a horror fan; It’s not the type I’m very drawn to. But after hearing all the hype around “Yellowjackets” when the first season debuted, I decided to take a chance and put it on Paramount Plus a while ago, and I’m so glad I did: It’s easily one of the best TV shows I’ve ever watched. I’ve watched it for years.
Halfway through the season, I was convinced that the show would be perfect as a limited series; Pack a lot of interesting plot lines into 10 episodes of engaging — and sometimes cringe-worthy — drama and then it disappears, leaving us to ponder some of the (many!) lingering questions it raises.
Then, in its final moments, “Yellowjackets” dropped one name that made me throw that opinion straight into the trash and turned me into a “Yellowjackets” Season 2 viewer for day one. So I’m on board, and I’m convinced that many first-time “Yellowjackets” viewers will be as hooked as I am if they experience the series when it hits one of the top streaming services.

What is the “Yellow Vests” theme? Yellowjackets (2021) movie, with subtitles, Showtime – YouTube, watch now
If you haven’t seen it before, “Yellowjackets” is a mixture of several genres; It is at once a survival story, a compelling piece of psychological horror, and a coming-of-age drama, all surrounded by many mysteries yet to be unraveled.
The story revolves around a high school girls’ soccer team. On their way to a big tournament, their plane crashes, leaving them stranded in the wilderness. The show is then shown over two time periods; The first details the events in the days and months following the accident, showing the girls’ struggle to survive… and how they descended from a close-knit team into savage clans, Lord of the Flies style.
The other part takes place approximately 25 years later, where he meets the few survivors who have returned to their homes. They each live very different lives… though it soon becomes clear that their pasts may be catching up with them once again.

Aside from my obvious enthusiasm for the series itself, this is a good time to get busy, as Season 3 of ‘Yellowjackets’ is set to hit our screens sometime in 2025. It’s also, separately, a thoroughly entertaining piece of television, with a fantastic cast , and is able to juggle serious, dark drama with dark comedic moments really well.
As a mystery series, ultimately, I don’t want to spoil the twists and turns of any of this particular tale, but I don’t doubt that newcomers might see “Yellow Vests” as a murderous drama (both figuratively and literally). And I’m not the only person who feels this way.
At the time of writing, the series has an impressive 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the site calling it a “thrilling mystery with plenty of bite.”
Going into more detail, Variety’s Carolyn Framke wrote the following about the first season: “Don’t be fooled by the trappings of a teen show: ‘Yellowjackets’ is a dark parable of human desperation that will get under your skin given a chance.”
At RogerEbert.com, Brian Tallerico said: “There’s something incredible about the ability to overeat [“Yellowjackets”] The writing continues to build on itself, and grows in effectiveness as we get to know these characters better and better, thanks to one of the best ensemble casts of the season.
Finally, Empire’s James Dyer gave the series a 4-star rating, writing: “Sudden and ridiculous, this tightly plotted mystery horror is meaty in all the right (and wrong) ways.”
But if you get caught up in all the drama and want more “Yellowjackets” as soon as possible, you can currently stream “Yellowjackets” Season 2 on Paramount Plus with Showtime. We’ve also compiled a list of shows like ‘Yellowjackets’ if you need more of the same kind of drama to tide you over until season 3 hits our screens too.
