Netflix said more than 60 million households watched the highly publicized boxing match between 58-year-old retired boxing legend Mike Tyson and a younger Jake Paul on Friday night.
The bout between Tyson, the former world heavyweight champion, and Paul, the 27-year-old social media star turned boxer, ended without knockouts, with Paul winning by unanimous decision.
The event was plagued by reports of video quality issues or interruptions during undercard matches, but reports of issues tracked by the website downdetector.com had decreased by the time of the main event at around 11pm local time in Texas.
Netflix acknowledged on social media the issues, drawing ridicule from X users who posted heavily pixelated videos that were allegedly identical.
“The massive boxing event dominated social media, broke records, and even had our caching system on the ropes,” the company wrote on X Saturday.
There were about 65 million simultaneous streams at the height of the Tyson-Ball fight, which was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Netflix said in a statement on Saturday.
Nearly 50 million households watched the fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, the co-main event that immediately preceded the fight between Tyson and Paul. Taylor won via unanimous decision.
