Netherlands vs Hungary lineup, expected starting 11, team news and injuries confirmed: Frenkie de Jong returns but not ready for several matches

The Netherlands will try to book their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League when they face Hungary in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman’s side drew 1-1 with these opponents before losing to Group A3 winners Germany in October, meaning they start these final double matches this month level on points with Marco Rossi’s side.

A win would put the Oranje into the knockout stage ahead of their final group match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but a victory for Hungary would see them clinch second place and a chance to qualify for the cup next March.

Expected lineup for the Netherlands vs. Hungary match, expected starting 11, team news

After three matches without a win, the Netherlands is facing intense pressure to perform better than it did in October and dominate the race for second place in the group.

Koeman confirmed on Friday that Frenkie de Jong is not yet ready to play two games in quick succession, so it remains to be seen whether he will take the risk from the start in his first international match in 14 months.

There is a decision to be made on which of Brian Proby, Joshua Zirkzee and Wout Weghorst will start at striker. Captain Virgil van Dijk is available again after serving a one-match suspension.

Predicted Netherlands lineup (4-2-3-1, from right to left): Verbruggen (goalkeeper) – Dumfries, Van Dijk, De Vrij, J Temper – Gravenberch, De Jong – Lange, Koopmeineers, Jakopo – Zirkzee.

Injured: Van de Ven, Schouten, Simons
Suspended: None

Rossi may be tempted to stay largely with the same team that drew 1-1 with the Netherlands in October, although Levente Szabo could push for a start up front after earning a maiden call-up.

Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez could also earn a place at left-back to support Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai. Attila Viola is suspended due to accumulation of yellow cards.

Predicted Hungary lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Deboch (goalkeeper) – Butka, Orbán, Dardai – Bula, Nykicher, Scheffer, Kerkez – Szoboszlai, R. Salai – Varga.
