Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette could deliver a breakout performance for the award.
The 23-year-old recipient was named one of six nominees for the latest Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week awards. Joining him in consideration are linebackers Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams and fellow pass catchers Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr. and Xavier Worthy.
Legette gave up his most productive game as a pro in a Week 4 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. This year’s No. 32 overall pick had six receptions for 66 yards and the first touchdown of his career while adding another 10 yards on a pair of rushing attempts.
He may have the voice of franchise great Luke Kuechly, who sang his praises on Monday’s episode of Up & Adams.
“His effort is really good, and the exchange of duos between the players is really good,” Kuechly said. “We drafted a guy that we wanted to run down the field, be quick, be physical and be a tough guard for defensive backs.
“And watching him go his route — I’ll go back to that look — he pushed that DB up, got into his chest, stood him up, cut him off. Once the DB gets behind him and gets him on his back, you’re not playing through Xavier Legette to get that ball.
