Pennsylvania Treasurer Election Results: Garrity faces McClelland

Pennsylvania Treasurer Election Results: 2024 Commitment

Democrat Erin McClelland is hoping to unseat Republican incumbent Stacey Garrity as Pennsylvania state treasurer. *Results will begin to appear after the polls close. Full results: President | US Senate | 17th Congressional District | Attorney General | Treasurer | General Reference | Allegheny County | Armstrong County | Beaver County | Butler County | Clarion County | Fayette County | Forest District | Greene County | Indiana County | Jefferson County | Lawrence County | Mercer County | Washington County | Venango County | WESTMORELAND COUNTY — Garrity, a retired Army Reserve colonel who served three tours in Iraq, was vice president of a tungsten smelting plant when she beat Democratic Treasurer Joe Torsella by less than one percentage point four years ago. Garrity resides in Athens, Bradford County, and has aggressively promoted her office’s efforts to return unclaimed property to its rightful owners. She also took credit for tackling state savings programs for people with disabilities and students and pushing the governor and Legislature to increase savings in the state’s rainy day fund. McClelland, a former congressional candidate with a background in mental health and substance abuse counseling who lives near Pittsburgh, says Garrity tended to use her position to engage on issues related to the national political debate. “Take all the politics out of the business,” McClelland said. “I believe this job is an honest broker who protects taxpayers, not a poodle for one party or another.” The Garrity campaign portrayed McClelland as lacking in charisma. Garrity’s better-financed campaign received an indirect boost earlier this month when Shapiro announced his endorsements of several fellow Democrats but did not endorse anyone in the treasurer’s race. Shapiro’s endorsements were for candidates who sought his support and where he believed he could “be successful,” a company spokesman said: “the biggest difference.” Click here to return to all election results.
