A Beechcraft 95 twin-engine plane crashed on Catalina Island around 8pm on Tuesday, killing all five people on board.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Catalina Airport in Avalon.

The Avalon Sheriff’s Station received a 911 SOS notification at the same time from a cellular device, stating that the user’s cell phone had been involved in a crash, with people possibly injured, and provided GPS coordinates for the crew to respond.

The wreckage of the plane was found about a mile west of Catalina Airport, where five adults were also found dead.

Records show the plane took off for Catalina from Santa Monica Airport earlier in the day, around 5:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service reported that there were no dense fog warnings at the time. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident.

Due to the rugged and steep terrain, the scene is secured until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and members of the Los Angeles County Department of Emergency Services arrive.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
