The Miami Dolphins started the offseason by letting some homegrown talent walk out the door. In at least two cases, they were selected by offering players almost ridiculous contracts. We’re now finding out that others, like Andrew Van Ginkel, who has been out of work since leaving, were never offered a deal by Miami. What??? They needed to, at the very least, try, didn’t they??? Then came a wave of free agent signings and the trepidation of some Phins fans seemed to have subsided. Now, it seems that with all the losses and additions to the roster, the huge and glaring need that was overlooked (besides the offensive line) due to Tua Tagovailoa’s previous injury/concussion issues, was a more solid quarterback who could carry the team if and when Tua goes out for a long period of time.
That time came. Tua sat out the second game of the season and didn’t return until last week. The team now sits in a terrible 2nd and 5th place on the season. With the idea of getting into Buffalo and getting a win over the Buffalo Bills looking unlikely, this season appears to be over. The team could then move on, losing just one game and ending up 10 and 7, which would likely lead them to the playoffs. However, this scenario seems less likely than a win next Sunday. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be rooting for my team against Buffalo this week and hoping for an upset, but I’m not expecting it. This brings us to today’s question tonight.
At what point does the Miami Dolphins front office wave the white flag in the 2024 offseason and look to trade some assets, especially older players, to add valuable draft picks to build for the future? If you think you can make a few trades now or at a loss, who would you look to move?
