“Rick and Morty” is being renewed for a 12th season on Adult Swim

“Rick and Morty” has been renewed for two more seasons on Adult Swim, pushing the favorite mad scientist and his grandson into Season 12.

With Season 8 set to debut in 2025, and Season 10 announced for renewal in 2023, the green light for Season 12 pushes the Emmy Award-winning animated series through at least 2029.

The announcement was made by executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder on Thursday at a “Rick and Morty” New York Comic Con panel, where they were joined by series regulars Harry Belden, Ian Cardone, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer and Chris Parnell.

The panel also previewed an animation from an upcoming Season 8 episode scheduled to premiere next year.

“Since season one, ‘Rick and Morty’ has set a new standard in adult animation and shows no signs of stopping,” said Michael Ouellen, president of Adult Swim. “Dan, Scott and the rest of the extremely talented team behind ‘Rick and Morty’ continually outdo themselves, and I will join millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”

“No one wants a world without Rick and Morty,” Harmon added. “Fortunately, the list of places to go is still endless.”

Marder, who took over the role of showrunner in season five, said it was a “gift” to be renewed beyond the previously announced 10th season. “Rick and Morty – 100 years – forever!” he said in a statement. .

“Rick and Morty” follows sarcastic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his timid grandson Morty Smith as they balance home life while embarking on bizarre inter-dimensional adventures on Rick’s flying saucer.

The series was created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, who also voiced both Rick and Morty until he was fired from the show in 2023 after he was charged with felony domestic assault and false imprisonment, and allegations of behavior toward minors surfaced on social media. All criminal charges against Roiland were later dropped due to insufficient evidence. It was announced in October 2023 that Ian Cardone would take over as the voice of Rick, and Harry Belden would play Morty.
