Rick Moranis had a rare public outing in New York City.

The 71-year-old actor, beloved for his roles in classic films, was photographed walking around Manhattan on Friday, November 15.

During the day hike, Moranis was wrapped up to stay warm, wearing a brown jacket, dark brown gloves, a green hat, green-brown pants, and brown shoes.

He accessorized his look with brown framed glasses while carrying a black tote bag.

Moranis, who had not been seen in a live-action film since the 1990s, first achieved major success with his role in 1984’s Ghostbusters, in which he starred opposite Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and others.

He followed this up with a slew of other blockbuster films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including The Flintstones, Parenthood, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

However, Moranis retreated from Hollywood to raise his children, after the death of his wife, fashion designer Anne Belsky, in 1991.

Although he continued to take on some voice roles throughout the 2000s, Moranis remained off-screen and out of the public eye, a decision he discussed with The Hollywood Reporter in 2015.

“I took a break that turned into a longer break,” he told the outlet at the time. “Things happen to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change jobs, move to another city. Really, that’s all I did.”

The actor also discussed transitioning from a life in the film industry to focusing on his children, saying he has “no regrets.”

“I was working with really interesting people, great people. I went from that to staying at home with two young kids, which is a completely different lifestyle. But it was important to me,” he told THR.

Moranis added: “I have no regrets at all. My life is wonderful.”

Back in 2020, THR announced that the actor would reprise his Honey, I Shrunk the Kids role played by Wayne Szalinski in the reboot alongside Josh Gad, titled Shrunk.

The film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and scheduling and budget issues, however, Gad, 41, was unveiled in 2023. As of November 2024, the film is still in pre-production, according to IMDB.

Earlier in June, Amy O’Neill, who played Moranis’ character’s daughter in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, spoke warmly about her time working with the actor.

“Rick was always warm but respectful, always kind, professional and on his game. I’m so proud to call him my dad,” she told PEOPLE.
