Scream 7 is ready to make its way into theaters, but it won’t be for a while.
The sequel to the controversial horror film, which features the return of Neve Campbell in the role of iconic “Scream Queen” Sidney Prescott, will get a release date of February 27, 2026. Paramount Pictures confirmed the news on Tuesday, with Campbell and returning filmmaker Kevin Williamson on board. Anniversary of modernization.

Scream 7 is finally underway as the first sequel since the unofficial departure of franchise titles Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Barrera was fired by production company Spyglass Media Group over her views on the Palestinian issue and criticism of Israeli actions in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, while Ortega’s camp cited scheduling conflicts over her departure.
Courteney Cox is in talks to reprise her role as sultry reporter Jill Weathers. However, she confirmed in an interview with Variety that no official agreement has been reached for her return. “I haven’t officially signed,” she said. “I’m not, but there will be screaming 7.” The actress and Friends vet also noted that the team is “rewriting all the time,” and that “it’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”
Jay Busiek, a writer on the 2022 soft reboot Scream and its sequel Scream VI, is the writer of Scream 7. Williamson, who helped launch the franchise by writing the original Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, is directing. Radio Silence, the filmmaking team behind the Barrera and Ortega-led segments, is serving as executive producers. But, as they previously told Entertainment Weekly, it’s just a false credit and they’re not actively involved in shaping the film.
“We have a lot of love and respect for the team,” Radio Silence director Tyler Gillette explained. “They gave us that title, I guess, as a thank you for being an essential part of bringing this franchise back to the fans, but that’s as far as our involvement goes.”

Plot details for Scream 7 are still being kept under wraps, but it is said to focus on Campbell’s Sidney. Rumors also abound that the production will bring back Patrick Dempsey in the role of Det. Mark Kincaid, who has become Sydney’s husband since the events of Scream 3. However, the studio has not commented on these rumors and has not made any official announcement.
“Those movies have been a big part of my life and they mean a lot to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, because I wasn’t a part of it,” the actress told PEOPLE. “I was really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think it means a lot to women and the community. I’m grateful to be able to step into Sydney’s shoes again and tell her story.”
