Republican senators will choose a new Senate GOP leader next week, and Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., has endorsed Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, for the role.
Republican senators will vote via secret ballot on Wednesday, November 13.
“I support John Cornyn for Majority Leader,” Hawley said in a statement. “In the last two years, no one has done more to win back the majority. He has tirelessly raised millions of dollars for competitive Senate races, including mine.”

“He has a heart for people: He has expressed support for a RECA settlement that would fairly compensate hundreds of thousands of Americans poisoned by their government, including many in Missouri,” Hawley continued.
He concluded by saying, “I know that he will work closely and effectively with President Trump to fulfill the promise of our new majority. I am pleased to offer him my support.”
In addition to Cornyn, Republican Senators Rick Scott of Florida and John Thune of South Dakota are vying for the position of Senate GOP leader.

Thune currently serves as the Senate Republican whip, a role Cornyn previously held. Scott previously served as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
Republicans won the Senate majority in the 2024 elections.
Earlier this year, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said. Who has headed the Republican Party in the Senate since 2007, announced that his current term as Senate Republican leader will be his last.

During an appearance on Fox Business’ “Kudlow” show, Scott said he hopes President-elect Donald Trump will support him for the role.
During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Thune said he would prefer Trump “stay out” of the leadership race.
