British top seed Katie Poulter faces qualifier Sara Errani as she seeks to get past the first round of last year’s tournament.

The Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2024) H2H: Katie Poulter (WR 35) Sarah Errani (WR 90) Previous Tournament Best R1 (2023) Debut on First Serve Return Points Won % 35.7 38.4 Return Points Won % 43.1 46.9 Break point conversion % 38.9 43.4 Break points saved % 55.6 39.0 Total service points won % 59.0 52.0

Although Errani is below Poulter in the rankings, the Briton could really use some confidence to win.

Playing and prediction techniques

Poulter has not won consecutive matches since reaching the round of 16 in Toronto, and trails Errani in some key statistics. The Italian was more precise with her response and was able to capitalize on break point opportunities.

Poulter can counter that with much better stats in saving break points, and has been more consistent overall, but with Errani passing through qualifying, you might fancy her chances of getting there.

The former French Open finalist, ranked No. 5 in the world, is still a far cry from that kind of performance, and was last in the main draw at the US Open, where she had little confidence going into the third round.

Prediction: Bolter in three sets.
