The Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes meet on the neutral Las Vegas hardwood as they lift the lid on the 2024-25 season on Monday. Tip-off from T-Mobile Arena is scheduled for 10 PM ET (TNT/truTV). Let’s break down BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds on Texas vs. Ohio State and make our college basketball picks and predictions.
Texas, ranked 19th in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll, is coming off a 21-13 season last year. The Longhorns reached the NCAA Tournament and won the game before being eliminated in the second round of those brackets. Then, UT, a member of the Big 12, finished fifth in that department in scoring (75.4 points per game) and sixth in points allowed (68.9 per game). The “Horns” are now members of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Ohio State went 22-14 last season. The Buckeyes’ postseason consists of 3 NIT games. OSU was streaky, going 11-1 from November 15-January. 3, 1-6 from January 6 to February. 6 and 8-3 after February 18. The Buckeyes averaged 75.5 PPG (5th in the Big Ten) while allowing 70.2 (7th in the Big Ten).
Monday’s mile marks the back half of the Hall of Fame Classic, a men’s and women’s doubleheader at T-Mobile.

passes through; Texas is lean, but the profitability advantage lies with the ATS business.
Against the spread
Coach Rodney Terry returns for his third season at the helm of the UT program. His Longhorns earned a win over ATS in their opener two years ago, and last season topped the charts in their season opener against Gonzaga (Nov. 16).
Both sides have filtered a lot of new blood onto their rosters, but it looks like UT will bring back more experience. OSU coach Jake Deibler, though highly effective after taking over for Chris Holtmann midway through last season, is experiencing the opening week of the season for the first time.
He pegged the Longhorns as having the advantage in defending shots and creating turnovers.
Texas backfield -2.5 (-110).
Over/under
The neutral floor (and photography backdrop) blends in with plenty of fresh-looking courses for both sides. This means more mistakes and perhaps some late-game clumsiness.
With a game indicating average to slower than average speed, return to less than 147.5 (-115).
