The jury is out on whether he’s the greatest film soundtrack composer of all time, but few would dispute that John Williams has written more memorable (and more humble) themes than almost anyone else.

From Star Wars and Indiana Jones to Jurassic Park and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Williams has worked on some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, and now his genius is set to be celebrated in a new documentary titled Music by John Williams on Disney+.

The trailer for the film has just been released, and features contributions from the likes of George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Chris Martin, and of course, Williams himself.

“The first thing I played for Steven on that piano was this [plays two-note pattern from Jaws Main Title theme]; I played it for him and he said: What is this? What are you going to do with this?

Williams has continued to work with Spielberg on almost all of his films, and the director is happy to acknowledge the influence his music has had.

“The best way to show how much music influences films is…to play them with no music at all. Then, go back and do the whole scene again, with all the cues, and you’ll recognize the absolute brilliance of John Williams.”

John Williams’ music will be available on Disney+ from November 1.
