The PS5 Slim is getting a price cut for the holidays

Sony is cutting the price of the “slim” digital version of the PS5 by $70, making it more affordable for the holiday season. Normally, this PS5 model costs $449.99, but it will start at $379.99 through December 24, according to a new announcement.

This holiday deal offers the PS5 Digital Slim Edition at a slightly lower price than the original price of $399.99 for the Launch Edition of the PS5 Digital Console. A footnote at the end of the ad specifies that this price is only for the discless console, so it appears that the model with a disc drive already attached will still start at $499.99. But the holiday prices also mean that by purchasing a PS5 Digital Slim and one of Sony’s $79.99 discrete PS5 drives, you can build your own PS5 with a drive and save about $40.

Another way to save money is to opt for one of Sony’s refurbished PS5 consoles: a digital refurbished costs $349.99 while a model with a disc drive costs $399.99. But the refurbished consoles also come with the original PS5 design, which is larger and (arguably) uglier than the slimmer model.

On the other end of the spectrum, Sony offers the PS5 Pro for $699.99. But this doesn’t come with a drive, and whether it’s worth the higher cost may depend on how far you are from the screen.
