With Donald Trump likely to bring her father Elon Musk with him on his return to the White House, Musk’s transgender daughter Vivienne Gina Wilson has announced plans to leave the US entirely.
In a message posted Wednesday on Threads, Wilson said Trump’s landslide victory “confirmed” that she is better off in other, more accepting places for transgender people.
“I’ve thought about this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me,” Wilson said. “I don’t see my future being in the United States.”
“Even if he only stays in office for 4 years, and even if the anti-trans regulations don’t magically come into effect, the people who voted for this willingly aren’t going anywhere anytime soon,” she added.
In the replies under her post, comments ranged from affirmations to warnings that the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere.
Wilson, the eldest son of Musk’s twin with author Justin Musk, has a strained relationship with her father, as she has accused him of being an absent father and a “serial adulterer” and not accepting her move.
Wilson severed ties with Musk in 2022, according to Walter Isaacson’s biography. Musk has previously described Wilson as a “communist” who has been brainwashed into “believing that anyone who is rich is evil.”
Although she mostly stays out of the public spotlight, she has taken opportunities to speak out against her father’s increasingly erratic behavior.
In response to Musk’s offer to vaccinate Taylor Swift after she endorsed Kamala Harris for president, Wilson called her father’s comments “outrageous bullshit.”
