At its peak, the power outage affected more than 26,000 people in Marion County and led to the closure of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
INDIANAPOLIS — Updated 2:45 p.m. — The number of customers without power has dropped to less than 600.

Updated 2:23pm – AES released a statement explaining what happened:
“The outage was caused by a fault in our substation that was quickly isolated. We are working to restore the remaining 3,700 customers who lost power. The majority of customers were restored within 30 minutes.”
Updated 2:15pm – The number of customers without power has dropped to about 3,700.
Updated 2:02 p.m. – The number of customers without power has dropped to about 4,600.
Updated 1:41 p.m. – The number of customers without power has dropped to 13,000.
“We are actively responding to widespread power outages in the northeast quadrant of the city. Crews are working to restore service to all affected customers with safety as our top priority. Please report any hazards to 317-261-8111.”
Updated 1:39 p.m. – The number of customers without power has risen to more than 26,000.
AES Indiana has more than 15,000 customers without power as of 1:15 PM on November 15, 2024.

The power outage appears to extend from Guest and Castleton on the northeast all the way to the area around the Children’s Museum on the north side.
The Indiana State Fairgrounds has canceled all activities as power outages continue.
Due to an unexpected power outage in this area, all events at the fairgrounds will be temporarily closed. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to restore service.
