CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A former St. Xavier High School employee has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.
Emily Notley, 42, has been charged with six counts of sexual battery, the district attorney’s office announced Monday.
Notley was a teacher/coach who oversaw a program to help students having difficulties with academics at St. Xavier, the prosecutor’s office explained.
The teenage victim was assigned to the program and began working with Notley on academic matters in the fall 2023 semester, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Notley then began having additional contact with the student outside of school hours, the district attorney’s office said.
The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office explained that the 42-year-old employee at St. Xavier School sent the teen nude photos, texts and sexually explicit messages.
The multiple encounters and sexual relationship between Notley and the teen began in mid-November 2023, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office announcement said.
The prosecutor’s office explained that the sexual encounters occurred at least once on the St. Xavier High School campus, including Nutley’s office, and away from school property.
The student made attempts to stop the encounters, but Notley continued to send text messages to the teen, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.
An internal investigation by St. Xavier High School led to them contacting Springfield Township police, who began their own investigation into the allegations.
This is completely unacceptable and reprehensible behavior from an adult towards a minor child. This child needed help and guidance but instead found an adult looking to act out her deviant sexual desires.
I would like to thank the Springfield Township Police and St. Xavier High School for their thorough investigation into this matter.
Let me be very clear: this is child sexual abuse. This child was the victim of an adult predator who should never have a role that brought her into contact with children. She used this child to satisfy her sexual desires while taking advantage of the position she held.
My office will investigate this matter fully and thoroughly to ensure justice is done.
Nutley was fired by St. Xavier, the school’s communications coordinator, Brittan Schreiner, told FOX19 NOW in October.
St. Xavier High School released a statement Monday, saying they believe the accusations against Notley are an isolated incident:
We value the unwavering commitment of our faculty, staff, and administration to the safety, well-being, and dignity of every student in our care. We believe this case is an isolated incident. However, if any St. John’s employee lets you down, … treilly@stxavier.org or Director Dan Lynch at dlynch@stxavier.org, or by phone at (513) 761-7600.
At this time, we respectfully ask for continued prayers for the well-being of our students, their families, our entire staff, and for all individuals affected by the abuse. We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and caring environment for the entire St. Xavier community.
Notley is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 8 at 8:30 a.m., online court records show.
