Sidney Sweeney’s romantic comedy “Anyone But You” grossed $220 million at the box office
Anyone But You star Sydney Sweeney said the idea of women supporting each other in the film and TV industry is “false”.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress, also known for Euphoria and White Lotus, said: “This whole industry, as everyone says, is ‘women empowering other women.’
“None of this happened. It’s all fake and a front for everything else [stuff] What they say behind everyone’s back.”
Earlier this year, the star responded to “shameful” comments made by a Hollywood producer, saying: “She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”
Asked about the incident in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, Sweeney said: “It’s very frustrating to see women tearing down other women, especially when women who are successful in other areas of their industry see young talent working hard — hoping to achieve anything.” “. “The dreams they might have – and then they try to attack and discredit any work they’ve done.”
Sweeney, one of Hollywood’s biggest rising stars in recent years, went on to discuss why this happened.
“I read that throughout our lives, we have been brought up — and it’s a generational problem — to believe that only one woman can reach the top,” she said.
“There’s only one woman who can have a man. There’s only one woman who can, I don’t know, be anything.”
“So everyone else feels like they have to fight each other or take that woman down instead of saying, ‘Let’s all lift each other up.
“I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just doing my best here. Why am I getting attacked?”

In April, Carol Baum, who has produced films including Dead Ringers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, spoke about Sweeney after a screening of the film.
According to Variety, Baum said: “There’s an actress that everyone loves now – Sidney Sweeney. I don’t understand Sidney Sweeney. I was on the plane watching a Sidney Sweeney movie.” [Anyone But You] Because I wanted to watch it.
“I wanted to know who she was and why everyone was talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie — sorry for the people who like this… romantic comedy where they hate each other.”
Baum, who also teaches at the University of Southern California, added: “I told my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’ “And no one had an answer.”
In response, Sweeney’s representative told Variety: “How sad that a woman in a position to share her expertise and experience would choose to attack another woman instead.”
