Once again, we had another record-breaking type of game for the Houston Rockets.
We’ve done that several times already this season. Most recently, it was a trip to OKC. But tonight’s match is a measure in a different way. While the Thunder are clearly better than the Rockets right now (at least two levels better, I’d say), the Chicago Bulls are the type of team that Houston, on paper, should beat. It’s been a long time since the Rockets were in a position to “overwhelm” an opponent, though we saw brief moments of that last season.
At 9-4, Houston is certainly making itself known. The 56-win pace probably isn’t sustainable, and injuries will bite this team at some point. However, it’s nice to know that Houston, at least so far, is in the top half of the NBA’s teams. Of course, with that status comes expectations, and they’re terrifying for a young team starting to get it together.
It’s normal with so many young players, but it seems like Houston will always have at least one player in the mix. Until Friday night, that player was definitely Jabari Smith Jr. We hope that he has found his way out of this distress. Now, our attention turns to rookie Reed Sheppard, who has not shot the ball well this season. This was supposed to be his biggest strength in the NBA. He’s also been on the ground in several poor stretches of Houston. With Aaron Holiday getting harmless minutes against the Clippers, one wonders if Udoka plans to bring the veteran guard off the bench with the second unit in the near future. That could allow Sheppard to watch from the bench or spend some time recapturing his Premier League form with Cam Whitmore.
Xiane will be in the operating room tonight, so you should come watch the Rockets and talk about the game. Remember we have a range of VIP passes that we give away to anyone who wants to watch the match. No need to pass the league!
